May 2010

The first 4 months of the year for me are the most grueling months being that I am an accountant as well as all my responsibilities within OSIA. I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who helped me with deadlines, sending out letters and representing me at different functions.

On March 20th Teresa Tallini & Michelina Cappuccilli along with their committee hosted our annual St. Joseph’s Night. Thanks you all who attended. Even though St. Joseph’s night is not a fundraiser there was such a great turnout that we ended up making a profit, which will be donated accordingly.

March 26th was our annual Scholarship Dinner Dance I want to thank Alfonso Squillante, Joe Sciame and the entire dinner dance committee for organizing the dinner dance with many new ideas along with a new venue, new music and a different centerpiece which everyone loved. Also, I would like to give a big thank you to Joe Sciame for once again organizing a great journal which will help without scholarships and charitable endeavors. I know it isn’t an easy task but he does it with such a dedication that I don’t know anyone who will be able to fill his shoes should he decide to ever give it up.

April was a fun month it started out with the Coolies Anemia Dine-a-Round where Cellini was well represented with two tables full of members as well as raffle prizes that were donated by the Lodge and members.

On Sunday April 11th we had our Fashion Show at Pompeii Restaurant. Thank you to all who attended. If you were not able to make it you missed a wonderful afternoon. This year we had two fairly new members step up to the plate and run an event. They not only ran with the event they knocked it out of the park. Thank you to Val Alfarone-Hughes and Denise Alfarone along with their committee for doing a spectacular job.

On April 17th Salvatore Squillante ran a bus trip to Atlantic City. We had a full bus and it seemed like everyone had a good time. I think we will be running more trips again in the future.

The Grand Lodge has designated May Alzheimer’s month and has asked each lodge to make a donation and the officers and membership have voted to earmark the profit from St. Joseph’s night as our donation. Thank you to the entire lodge for once again making Cellini look great.

On May 13th we will be having our Night at the Races at Marcus Christ Hall on the corner of New Hyde Park Road and Jericho Turnpike. I want to thank another fairly new member for stepping up to the plate and running an affair.

District II Memorial Mass co-sponsored by Cellini and America Lodge will be on May 18th, 7:30pm at Notre Dame Church. I hope to see a large turnout from our membership since we are remembering our dearly departed.

One thing I want to emphasize this month is that all members should be getting involved either by chairing or co-chairing an event or even volunteering to help out. The only way a new member is going to get involved and enjoy Cellini is buy seeing everyone working together to achieve the greatness that Cellini is. I am so proud of everyone for all that you do.

In closing I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the mothers and grandmothers a very Happy Mother’s Day. Also I would like to wish everyone a safe Memorial Day. Hope to see you all on May 3rd.
